Dwarves & Smoking

Dwarven holds are filled with smoke, and not just from the fires of hearths and forges, torches and candles. A large amount of it comes from the pipes they are fond of smoking.

Dried herbs, mosses, and the leaves and even bark of trees. Marshmallow, arnica, mugwort, chamomile, lavender, mint, catnip, sage are some herbs dried and smoked. Birch and willow are the two commonly known trees whose bark is smoked. Most of these are harmless or even medicinal.

One of their highest art forms is the carving of pipes from wood or stone or sculpting clay pipes. Their smoking products are made to burn very hotly and with lots of smoke that other races’ throats cannot handle, so they create blends for others that are more amenable to them. They practice blowing smoke rings and have competitions among friends and even in organized tournaments.

Alpine Dwarf Smoking

The alpine dwarves of Taluma smoke the usual dried herbs, but their land has a native plant that is favored across the continent. Chulium is a mushroom that grows in a few caverns that is dried and smoked. Churlun Chooch is a specific brand of fried chulium that is well-known and cherished by all dwarves of Taluma.
Churlun Chooch is produced in Lokkland, in the Aarmal mountains, by the Churlun family who have run the drying and processing business for generations. Gurmgarn is the current patriarch of the Churlun family. The ‘secret’ to Churlun Chooch’s properties is that it is dried using peat moss from bogs in the nearby highlands.
