Orc Eidol-Stones
Though orcs of Taluma honor Gwyven above all god’s, they do worship all of them. In addition to the primary gods, they also honor other spirits, eidolons, immortals with transcendental power. The different people of Taluma have different eidolons: such as the exemplars of Luministic humans. Orcs honor two kinds: one set are exalted heroes, while the other are tutelary spirits in the form of divine creatures. The creatures are seen as emissaries or servants of Gwyven They do not build temples or even smaller shrines, instead they worship their eidolons at monoliths called eidol-stones.
Eidol-stones are monoliths, large vertical stones, dedicated to an eidolon at sites important for a natural wonder or the site of the event of an exalted orc’s heroic deeds. Orc may visit them at different times. Some are important dates such as the anniversary of an event, a celestial event, or a seasonal date. They may also just visit them when they can, making a pilgrimage when it next works for them. Finally, they may visit when there is a need to ask for aid from the eidolon, as other people may visit a temple to pray.
On Ijis Island, the new orc-home - a rare permanent throng, there is a unique eidol-stone dedicated to the goddess Luna. Read on to find out why the queen of the sea, a goddess normally attributed to elves, is important to the orcs of Ijis.
Orc Eidol-Stone at Ijis
The orc throng at Ijis Island were granted rule of the island in the Maessus Ocean if they could reclaim it from the calamity that forced the elves to leave it. When they arrived, they found it under the sway of a kraken and its force of oceanic monsters and minions. Only by calling on Luna’s dominion over the sea were the orcs able to command the power to defeat the host of abyssal horrors. On the highest point of the island, which has mountains, the orcs erected an eidol-stone in honor Luna and her aid in their defeat of the kraken.
Luna, who the orcs call Waverender, is one of the four Caelestine, the gods of the four elements and the celestial body that manifests that element who include the elves’ other idol Air-King Stel and the dwarven patrons Earth-Queen Eosta and Fire-King Sol. Each of the four Caelestine have dominion over many realms related to their element. Luna’s minerals are soil, her plants are fruits and greens, her time is midnight, her beasts are the fish, and her storm aspect is the rain.
