Kylbi Harvestleaf
In the Tales of Taluma, an urchin is one of the primary heroes. Usually thought to be too small, or just unconcerned with world events, to make an impact, Kylbi would show the world that urchins can, indeed, be counted among the heroes of Gaithewaite and Taluma.
Called Kylbi, he grew up as a child in the outskirts of the city of Gaithewaite on the Chassel River. The rabble of urchins that he and his family lived amongst lived on the river on boats and barges but mostly simple rafts.
As a young man, he was abducted - along with the other children in his rabble - but luckily was rescued by the roguish young man called Rook and a young woman guard recruit called Vey. In shock over his predicament, and distrustful of pretty much anyone at that point, he ran off from his rescuers, into the Ebonwald forest. Considered haunted by the nearby townsfolk of Tormorant, the forest was inhabited by elves who staunchly protected it from deforestation and hunting by the people of the harbor town. The elves found him and took him in, offering to take him home, but Kylbi did not know if it would be safe to return to the Chassel River. Since he was nearing adulthood, the elves respected his request and allowed him to stay with them. While among the Moonshadow elves, he learned their sacred ways of respecting and worshiping the forest and nature and was even initiated among their clergy of Black Spruce Grove. He was given the title ‘Harvestleaf’ by the elves because of his red hair that looks like autumn leaves.

Kylbi: Urchin Druid
Kylbi, or a character like him using him as inspiration, can be created in the 5e+ rules. To start with, he is of course an urchin. (Read more about them and how to use them as a species here.) His starting - and primary - class is druid. Kylbi has a background of Sailor since he grew up on a riverboat on the Chassel River which gives him Athletics and Perception and Navigator’s Tools and Vehicles (Water) as proficiencies.
As a 1st level Druid, Kylbi gains Medicine and Nature proficiencies as well as with the Herbalism Kit tool. He has some weapon proficiencies, but he is more of a healer than a fighter, and if he does have to help in combat prefers to use his spells instead. Thorn whip is a cantrip he will use, and as an urchin child he learned how to use a sling and casts magic stone to make his shots more powerful. He calls upon plants - vines and roots - to aid him and entangle is a useful spell to slow and even restrain opponents. At 3rd level, he would join the Circle of the Land, increasing his mystical connection with nature to make his spellcasting more potent.
After that? Well, you’ll have to read our Tales of Taluma to see how Kylbi grows as a character. If you want to make your own character like him, its in your hands to choose how they level up.
