Urchin Beverages: Water
Because of their lifestyle, urchins typically do not have the ability - the room and time - to make fermented beverages like ale and wine. They usually drink only water. Besides gathering from wells and springs, they are known to use barrels to collect rain runoff.
They flavor drinking water by adding fruit or herbs, but are especially fond of adding honey to their water. When they add flowers and honey they call the drink nectar.
The additives to water are typically used to flavor the water, but it can serve other purposes as well. Adding mint, ginger, cinnamon, or even apple cider vinegar can aid with digestion. Honey also aids in digestion but can also help with a sore throat or cough, and of course adds an energy boost. Urchins have a high metabolism and adding the sugars of honey to their water can give them energy for a short time.
Urchin Honey Water
The practice of drinking honey water is an important one to urchin life. In the morning, they will often drink warm water with honey and other additives. Honey is one of the resources they can gather naturally despite their size, and they will often keep bees - even in towns and cities - for their honey. Urchin beekeepers and artisans use the honey for salves, balms, and other medicinal uses in addition to using it as a sweetener - every urchin has a sweet tooth.
Urchin burrows will make a large pitcher of water with honey and add flowers to make a nectar that they all can drink from throughout the day.
